Northborough – After years of working for other dental practices, Dr. Jasna Kun was ready to start her own business when Northborough dentist Dr. Patricia Pfeifer decided to retire.

Kun bought the practice and opened under the name Dental Solutions of Northboro at the end of April, with a conveniently located office and ample parking.

“This was a great opportunity to own my practice and have my own home base,” she said.

Kun is an endodontist, a dentist specializing in root canal treatment, with degrees from the Boston University School of Dental Medicine. After working for 10 years in endodotic specialty practice, she decided to start treating patients for several area dentists, visiting their offices on a scheduled basis. She is continuing to do that while working at her own office on Fridays.

Dental Solutions of Northboro also has two general dentists in the practice.

Dr. Dalia Jukneliene, a native of Lithuania, trained in that country, Norway and Chicago and earned a doctor of dental medicine degree from Boston University.

Dr. Sarat Ummethala graduated from the Loma Linda University School of Dental Medicine in southern California.

Each of the general dentists works in Northborough two days a week, with Kun in the office on Fridays. Heather Dowd is the practice's primary hygienist, and there are two hygienists available on Saturdays, when the office is open from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Dowd, Jukneliene and office manager Gina Boucher had worked together with another practice before joining Dental Solutions.

While the professional staff all trained at U.S. dental schools, their backgrounds give the practice an international flair and the ability to interact with patients in several languages if necessary. Kun speaks Serbo-Croatian, the language of her childhood. Jukneliene, known as “Dr. Dalia,” speaks Lithuanian, and Ummethala speaks the Hindi and Telugu Indian dialects.

Kun carries the international aspect even further. For several years, she has volunteered with the Global Dental team, a nonprofit group providing dental care for underprivileged children in Vietnam, Nepal, Guatemala and India in cooperation with the governments and schools there. She spends 10 days a year, often accompanied and helped by one of her two grown children, providing basic dental care in facilities set up in schools.

“Most of these children have never seen a dentist, or even owned a toothbrush,” she said.

Dental Solutions of Northboro provides a complete range of dental services, including tooth implants, veneers, whitening and cosmetic dentistry as well as root canal treatment. Jukneliene is also trained in the Invisalign teeth-straightening procedure.

The practice serves both adults and children, as evidenced by the child-sized table, chairs and toys in the waiting area.

It also welcomes senior patients, and accepts senior insurance plans Fallon Senior and Blue Cross 65. “A lot of practices are not taking seniors as new patients,” Kun noted.

Dental Solutions is located at 367 West Main St. in Northborough. Hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. For an appointment, call 508-393-4777. Additional information is available on the website www.dentalsolutionsofnorthboro.com.
