Marlborough – The Marlborough Police Department has released a press statement regarding an arrest made after their investigation into a string of breaking and enterings:

On November 29, 2012 the Marlborough Police Department arrested Christopher R. Carty after a sustained investigation into numerous motor vehicle breakings and enterings in the area of the Rail Trail near Sasseville Way. During the course of the investigation, officers developed information regarding the description of the suspect’s appearance and as well as an involved vehicle.

On November 29th  officers observed a vehicle fitting the description of suspect vehicle in the area of Sasseville Way. After conducting a stop of the vehicle, the operator, Christopher Carty, was placed under arrest for various motor vehicle offenses. During a subsequent interview with officers, Mr. Carty’s involvement in the vandalisms, larcenies, and breaks into several vehicles in the area of the Rail Trail in Marlborough was verified.

In addition, Mr. Carty also made statements which implicated him in similar crimes in other municipalities including Hudson, Westborough, Sudbury, Shrewsbury, and Clinton. As a result, officers recovered an extensive amount of property and attempts are being made to locate the owners. The potential exists that some victims may not have reported similar crimes to their respective police departments as the majority of the recovered property is pocketbooks, purses, and smaller items held within. As the investigation continues, Mr. Carty may face further criminal charges.
