Commerce Bank in Shrewsbury robbed

Shrewsbury – The Shrewsbury Police Department has released a statement about a robbery that occurred this morning at Commerce Bank on Route 9:

On December 17th, 2012 (Monday) at 10:33 A.M. Shrewsbury Police responded to a reported bank robbery at Commerce Bank located at #226 Boston Turnpike (Route 9). Upon arrival police determined a lone robber had fled the bank with an undetermined amount of cash. The suspect had entered the bank and passed a note demanding cash. No weapon was shown and no one was injured as a result of the robbery.

The suspect is described as a white male, mid-thirties, approximately 6 ft., skinny build with a reddish scruffy beard. Suspect was wearing a dark colored “Carhartt” style jacket with a gray hood and white baseball hat.

Shrewsbury Officers searched the area along with the Shrewsbury Police K-9 for approximately 2 hours but the suspect eluded police. Massachusetts State Police assisted at the crime scene.  A photo is attached of the suspect and Shrewsbury Police are asking anyone with information to call Detective Michael R. McGinnis at 508-841-8436.
