Holden/Northborough – Lindy L. Baker, age 63 and born in Springfield, IL, retired Registered Nurse, passed away Friday, Dec. 28, 2012 at University of Massachusetts Memorial Health Care – University Campus, surrounded by her family at her bedside.
Lindy was the eldest child of James E. Corrington Sr. and Mary Jane Corrington, who preceded her in death. She was the wife and high school sweetheart of James W. Baker, having been married since 1970. She lived 28 years in Northborough until moving to Holden in 2004.
Besides her husband, she is survived by daughter Jennifer Flanagan and her husband Ted of West Boylston, and by son Andrew Baker and his wife Megan of Leicester, five grandchildren Kevan, Brendan, and Ainsleigh Flanagan and Molly and Abby Baker. Lindy leaves one sister, Sandra Fox of Savoy, IL and two brothers James E. Corrington, Jr. of Phoenix, AZ, and William Magill Corrington and his wife Linda Tannehill of Springfield, IL, plus numerous nephews, nieces, and great nephews and nieces.
Lindy graduated from St. John's Hospital School of Nursing in Springfield, IL in 1970. She was retired from Northborough Pediatrics, having served there as a Pediatric RN and Office Manager since its 1980 opening under Dr. Cesar Euribe, later followed by Dr. Elsa Li and Dr. Jose Correa.
She loved caring for growing children and saw as many as three generations before her retirement due to medical reasons in 2008. She had previous nursing assignments at UMass Memorial Medical Health Care in Worcester. She also worked in the Health Center at the College of the Holy Cross, Worcester. Prior to that, she was employed as a staff RN at hospitals in San Antonio, TX, Indianapolis, IN, and Urbana, IL.
Lindy was Senior Warden for the Church of the Nativity – Episcopal in Northborough three separate times in its history and sang in the Adult Choir since 1976.
She and her husband Jim traveled to Austria in 2001 with the Assabet Valley Mastersingers, singing in St. Stephen's Cathedral in Vienna. She also traveled to Jerusalem in 1989 in a pilgrimage to the Holy Land, and considered that trip a life-changing event.
Her greatest joys were her husband Jim, her two children, their spouses, and the five grandchildren who simply call themselves “Us.” She loved summers in West Yarmouth, MA and Ocean Park, ME, searching for sand dollars and sea glass, but also just enjoying the beach, sun, sand, and dips in the Atlantic. She also enjoyed cooking, traveling, and watching the dance recitals as well as youth sports of her grandchildren.
All who know Lindy understood that she was faithful to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, her parish the Church of the Nativity in Northborough, devoted to her husband Jim, and committed to her family above all else. She made this world far better for everyone even as she patiently and quietly had been awaiting a kidney transplant since 2009. Hers was a life well lived. Everyone who knew her was granted a special blessing just by sharing her life. Those of us who loved her cannot wait to meet her on the other side.
Lindy's family wants to thank her caregivers at the University Dialysis Center in Shrewsbury, home dialysis technician Sherry Fitton, and doctors, nurses, and staff at UMass Memorial.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, Jan. 2, from 4 to 7 p.m., at the Church of the Nativity, 45 Howard St., Northborough. Funeral services will be held Thursday, Jan. 3, at 11 a.m., at the Church of the Nativity.
