Suzanne Sullivan, 87
Suzanne was a dedicated mother to her children, and devoted daughter to her aging parents. She was a caring, compassionate, and friendly person, who also had a great sense of humor and always enjoyed a good joke. Her magical smile, kind words, and great attitude were welcomed by everyone who knew her, from family and friends, fellow parishioners, residents of nursing homes where she visited, to local business owners, familiar store clerks and strangers alike.
Throughout her life, Suzanne was a devout Catholic, offering her time and effort to multiple charitable causes and spiritual endeavors. She was an active member of the former St. Mary’s parish and the ‘French Hill’ community in Marlborough, later transitioning to the Immaculate Conception parish. She was an associate member of the Sisters of St. Chretienne, and embarked upon numerous retreats in North America as well as a pilgrimage to Fatima and Lourdes with Father Jonathan Gaspar in 2007. Most recently, Suzanne was active in the Immaculate Conception Church, preparing for and serving the daily Mass.
Suzanne began her working career as a lab technician for the blood bank in the Worcester area during the war years. After the early years of raising her children, she returned to work at varied positions in the greater Marlborough area until settling into a long tenure with the city of Marlborough. After her retirement, Suzanne stayed active with her family, traveling to Florida, California and Europe to visit and travel with her children and grandchildren. She never missed her extended-cousins’ annual Christmas party. In addition to her church-related volunteer activities, Suzanne also worked for causes such as the Marlborough Hospital Auxiliary.
Suzanne was blessed with the ability to shrug off life’s challenges with a cheerful attitude and a cheery smile, and brought a warm and calming influence to those around her. Her unwavering commitment to the spirit of Christ’s teachings, her love for life, and overall positive outlook enabled her to fully appreciate the best of what life has to offer. She will be missed by everyone who were fortunate enough to have known her.
She is survived by her sons, Daniel Sullivan and his wife Colleen of Ocala, FL and Brian Sullivan and his wife Susan Guerrero, of Orinda, CA, her daughter in law, Susan Sullivan of Marlborough and her grandchildren, Laurel Sullivan and her partner Michelle Grandin, Danny Sullivan and Julia Sullivan and many cousins. She was also the mother of the late Kathleen”Kate” Devisser, who died in 2001 and Mark Sullivan who died in 2009.
