Obit-Flag_USE-THIS-ONE4Charlestown, N.H. – Edwin W. Rand, 79, of Charlestown, N.H., a former longtime resident of Hudson, passed away Monday, April 8, 2013 at his residence. He was the loving husband of the late Nancy A. (Harris) Rand, who died in 2009.

Edwin was born in Stoneham, son of the late Edwin and Eleanor R. (Fay) Rand. He was raised in Medford, where he attended local schools and was a graduate of Medford High School. He was a Korean War veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Mindoro.

Edwin was employed as a truck driver for many years with the Barker Steel Co. of Somerville until his retirement.

Both he and his wife had moved to Charlestown, N.H. a few years back after their long residency in Hudson where they raised their family. He was a former member of the First Federated Church of Hudson and member of the Sounds of Concord chorus group. He spent many years during his children's youth coaching and volunteering for their respective teams in Youth Hockey and was an avid Montreal Canadiens fan.

He is survived by his four children, Doug Rand and his wife Jodie of Charlestown, N.H., Tom Rand and his wife Lynn of Rochester, Ed Rand and his wife Karen of Chandler, Az., and Jon Rand and his wife Hope of Rapid City, S.D. He was the father of the late Debra Rand. He is also survived by his brother, Craig Rand of Medford; his sister, Elaine Ebert of Medford; and many loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Sunshine Adams.

A funeral service will be celebrated Saturday, April 13, at 12:00 p.m., in the First Federated Church, 200 Central St., Hudson. Burial services will be held at a later date in Forestvale Cemetery of Hudson. Family and friends may attend calling hours on Saturday, April 13, from 10:00 to 11:45 a.m., at the Tighe-Hamilton Funeral Home, 50 Central St., Hudson.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Edwin may be made to the Peaceful Harvest Home, 144 Paris Ave., Charlestown, NH 03603.
