Westborough – Planning Board member Trevor Beauregard has resigned after serving seven years on the board, the selectmen announced during their April 9 meeting.

Beauregard stepped down “due to personal and professional matters,” according to Board of Selectmen Chair Ian Johnson, drawing from a letter Beauregard wrote to selectmen officially tendering his resignation.

The selectmen will now work with the Planning Board to make a joint appointment for the vacated seat. Beauregard’s term was set to expire in 2016, however, an appointed member would only serve until the spring 2014 Annual Town Election, at which time someone would run for the remainder of the term.

“It gives someone an opportunity to try it out, and see if it works for them,” Town Manager Jim Malloy said.

Selectman  Leigh Emery personally wanted to express her gratitude to Beauregard for his service to the town.

“I’d just like to thank him. He did a very good job for that length of time … it’s not an easy job to do,” she said.

Those interested in filling the vacant Planning Board seat should send letters/resumes to Paula Covino at Westborough Town Hall – located at 34 West Main Str. – by Wednesday, May 15.
