Westborough police make arrest after car hits tractor trailer

Police 2Westborough – Westborough Police Chief Alan R. Gordon has released a press statement regarding an arrest made this morning after a car struck a tractor trailer:

On 4/25/13, at approximately 8:30 AM, the Westborough Police Dept. responded to the intersection of W. Main St and Nourse St. The initial call was for an erratic operator in a white Lexus. There was an additional call reporting that the white Lexus had collided with a tractor trailer truck at the intersection.

Officer Domenic Annunziata responded to the scene and located a 2001 Lexus with front end damage and a 2011 Peterbuilt tractor with minor side damage.

The operator of the Lexus was identified as Derek P. Azzolino age 21 of 175 Maple St. #103 Marlborough. The tractor trailer was being operated by John Larochelle age 48 of 362 Pompeo Rd. N. Grosvenordale CT.

The investigation revealed that witnesses followed the Lexus from Grafton and observed it weaving back and forth and stopping in the middle of the road. At the intersection the witnesses observed the Lexus fail to stop for the stop sign and to collide with the right rear wheels of the trailer.

Azzolino was given field sobriety tests and was eventually placed under arrest for OUI alcohol. He was also charged with operating so as to endanger and failure to stop for a stop sign.

He is being held at the Westborough Police Department and will be arraigned at the WDC on Friday morning.
