Obit William BlackWestborough – William T. Black, 72, of Westborough, passed away after a brief illness Monday, May 6, 2013 at St. Vincent Hospital in Worcester. He was the husband of Carolyn (Mueller) Black.

Born in Brunswick, Maine, Bill was the son of the late Edmund and Emma (Hummer) Black. He was raised on Bailey Island, Maine, where he developed a love of the ocean. He attended high school at Gould Academy in Bethel, Maine, and was a graduate of the University of Maine at Orono.

Bill enjoyed a long career as an electrical engineer, retiring from Intel in 2001. Following his retirement he served as a substitute teacher in the Westborough Public Schools.

He was a communicant of St. Luke the Evangelist Church, and was a volunteer at St. Luke's and the Westborough Senior Center. Bill was an avid photographer and enjoyed sailing. He collected the latest electronic “gadgets” and enjoyed sharing them with his family and friends.

In addition to his wife, Bill is survived by his four children, Edmund “Ed” Black and his wife, Tammy, of Austin, TX, Thomas Black and his wife, JoAnn, of Portsmouth, RI, John Black of Norton, and Susan Hudson and her husband, Michael, of Centerville, and six grandchildren, Sam Black, Noah Black, Abby Black, Emma Hudson, Will Black and Molly Hudson.

His funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, May 11, at 10:00 a.m., in St. Luke the Evangelist Church, 70 West Main St., Westborough. Interment will be private. Calling hours at the Rand-Harper-Pickering Westborough Funeral Home, 62 West Main St., Westborough, are Friday, May 10, from 4 to 7 p.m.
