“Open Mic Night” to benefit Shrewsbury's school

MicShrewsbury – Residents are invited to participate in an “Open Mic Night” to benefit the Shrewsbury Public Schools on Friday, May 17, 7 to 9 p.m. at the Floral Street School.

Organized by the Celebration in the Garden Party Committee, the event will be set up with a coffeehouse atmosphere where participants may perform original pieces, including poetry, prose, a cappella singing, and rap. (All pieces should be family friendly.)

Local children's author April Jones Prince will open the event with an original piece she wrote as a child. Performers will have a chance to win a Barnes & Noble gift card and a 30-minute writing session with Prince. Entrance is $5 for adults, $2 for students and no cost for participants.
