Shrewsbury – The Trustees of the Shrewsbury Public Library announced the completion of the 2013 Sunday Library Season. Thanks to the contributions of generous individuals, businesses and civic groups, library users were able to enjoy a full season of Sunday hours from October to May. Twenty-eight donors provided approximately $19,000 in sponsorships to assure library service from 1 to 5 p.m. each Sunday during the eight-month period. During those Sundays, over 12,000 people visited the library and borrowed close to 23,000 items.
Trustee Chair Laurie Hogan commented: “It's so important to keep the library open on Sundays, for families, for seniors, for students, for all the people who need access? to the library resources, to the free Wi-Fi- or just a place to meet, study or work. This is the eighth year sponsors have underwritten the costs for this important service to our community. The Board of Library Trustees, and I's sure the patrons who use the library, are extremely grateful.”
Sponsorships were provided by the following donors: Mel and Sandra Cutler; The Olive I. & Anthony A. Borgatti Jr. Donor Advised Fund of the Greater Worcester Community Foundation; The Shrewsbury Social Club; Wei Kong Yeoh and Yubin Liang; a donor in Memory of James A. Heedles; the Shrewsbury Child Development Committee; Selectmen John Lebeaux and Selectmen Moira Miller; Polito Development Corp.; Webster Five Cents Savings Bank; Laurie and Matt Hogan; St. Mary's School 4th Grade Students, in conjunction with the Victor Quartana Post 397; Rotary Club of Shrewsbury; Shrewsbury Garden Club; the Shrewsbury Firefighter's Association; Katherine A. The Board of Trustees plans to offer the Sunday sponsorship program during the 2014 season, October 2013 through May 2014. Sponsorships can be booked for next season at the rate of $600 per Sunday.
