Shrewsbury – More than 50 children participated in the Shrewsbury Child Development Committee (SCDC) Kids” Fun Run and Bike Race June 15 at Lake Street Park. Children 8 and under could ride, walk or run in the event; all of them received a medal and ice cream at the finish line.

According to SCDC President Jenn Luke, the committee is dedicated to “providing free low cost activities to families with children 6 and under.” She emphasized the hard work of the committee which is entirely volunteer-based. The SCDC offers different activities and classes for children, including music classes, science classes and a monthly craft class.

The bike race and fun run was a fun way to get families involved in raising money for SCDC, Luke noted. “Events like this help us to run the activities that we would like to offer families,” she said. Half of the proceeds from the event will go to fund the SCDC's activities and half will be donated to the Beal Early Childhood Center.
