Region?- Gathered July 7 at the New England Sports Center in Marlborough are Tanith Belbin, the Olympic medalist for ice dancing (second from left), with local skaters (l to r) Caroline Depietri, 12, of Southborough; Kirsten Sjogren, 14, of Shrewsbury; and Elisa Raymond, 16, of Sutton. Over?80 members of the Skating Club of Boston, ages 6 to mid-20s,?participated in the U.S. Figure Skating program known as STARS (Standardized Testing of Athleticism to Recognize Skaters). The local club was awarded a visit from Belbin for being one of two of the 20 host cities nationally with the most program participants.
Belbin, together with her partner Ben Agosto, won the silver medal in ice dance in the 2006 Turin Olympics. The couple, who have also won four World titles and five National titles, are the most highly decorated American ice dance team in the history of the sport.
