Northborough – Richard E. Perron, 89, died peacefully at home from cancer Friday, July 19, 2013, surrounded by his loving family. He was born September 6, 1923 to Dorothy and Albert Perron of North Grafton.
He leaves his beloved wife of 57 years, Joan (Eisner) Perron of Nova Scotia, Canada; his beloved children, Dorothy Henry and her husband Michael, Donna Renaud her husband Roy, David Perron his wife Stephanie, predeceased daughter Barbara McCandless, all of Northborough, and predeceased infant son Richard Perron. He also leaves a beloved sister, Shirley Fields and her husband Bill (a lifelong friend) of Westborough, and a predeceased sister, Albertine Bissonette of Cape Canaveral, Florida. He ?was extremely close to his grandchildren, PJ, Mike, Nikki, Beth, Sammy, Matt, Shannon, Jesse, Nicole, Justin, Christie, and Tim. We were all blessed to be part of his life.
Dick retired from the former Stone & Webster Engineering Corporation in Boston, and went on to serve veterans for over 27 years in the towns of Northborough, Shrewsbury, and Grafton as Veterans’ Agent, helping countless veterans in obtaining needed financial assistance as well as employment, housing, and counseling.
He honorably served his country during World War II as a Quartermaster in the United States Navy and saw action in every major theater of war, including the Invasion of Sicily in 1943, D-Day in 1944, and the Battle of Okinawa in 1945. He also served six years as a Technical Sergeant in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He was a former Commander of American Legion Post #234 of Northborough.
Dick lived for family, and he spent a lifetime dedicated to the town of Northborough and its people, serving in many capacities.
Calling hours will be held Monday, July 22, from 4 to 8 p.m., in Hays Funeral Home, 56 Main St., Northborough. Dick's funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, July 23, at 10 a.m., at St. Bernadette Church, 266 Main St., Northborough. Burial with military honors will follow in Howard Street Cemetery.
