Obit Barbara JohnsonShrewsbury – Barbara E. (Henderson) Johnson, of Shrewsbury, died Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2013 in Millbury Healthcare Center. She was 93.

Born Oct. 13, 1919 in Fitchburg, she was a daughter of the late Francis and Ellen (Leamy) Henderson. Raised and educated in Shrewsbury, she was a graduate of the former Maj. Howard Beal High School, class of 1937. Her husband of nearly 73 years, Irving H. “Howie” Johnson, died June 27, 2012.

She leaves her children, Gail E. (Johnson) St. Pierre and Carole B. (Johnson) Bowles and her husband John, all of Shrewsbury, and Dr. Robert J. Johnson D.V.M. and his wife Denise of Stowe, Vermont; her grandchildren, Paula Raymond and her husband Michael of Pomphret Center, Connecticut, Jeffrey St. Pierre, Wendy Hodgerney and her husband David, Christine Kearns and her husband Joseph, Michael Bowles and his wife Michele, all of Shrewsbury, Maj. Brett Johnson and his wife Kelly of Tyngsboro, Bri Johnson of Providence, and Hansen Johnson of Stowe, Vermont; her great-grandchildren, Caitlyn and Justin Kearns, Owen Hodgerney, Erin and Anna Raymond, Nikki Johnson, Meghan and Norah Bowles; and nieces and nephews.

In addition to raising her family, Barbara worked for years as the bookkeeper for her husband's business, Johnson Chemical Company. She was a member of the First Congregational Church and Order of the Eastern Star #3.

She was happiest with her family and watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow. She was loved and adored by her family and will be greatly missed. She will live in our hearts always. She was predeceased by her husband; son-in-law, Paul St. Pierre; great-grandson, Michael Hodgerney; and siblings, Donald F. Henderson and Norman E. ‘Jack’ Henderson, who was killed in World War II.

Her family offers words of thanks to the staff of Millbury Healthcare for the wonderful care of Barbara over the last few years.

At Barbara's request funeral services will be private.

Memorials in her name may be made to charity of one's choice.
