Salem man charged in robbery at Westborough Stop & Shop
Westborough – Police Chief Alan Gordon released this statement this morning:
On Sunday, 9/8, at approximately 5:41 PM, the Westborough Police Department received a report of an unarmed robbery in the parking lot of Stop and Shop 32 Lyman St. The arriving units located a 34 year old female who reported that she was loading her groceries into her vehicle when a white male came up to her demanding her purse. She refused and a struggle ensued. The male did steal the purse and ran to a 2010 Ford Focus which had a trash bag over its rear license plate. The victim was not injured. A witness followed the vehicle onto Lyman St. heading south where he lost sight of the vehicle.
The victim’s husband responded to the scene and was able to track the stolen purse which contained an IPhone. The vehicle was traced to Price Chopper on Rte. 9 in Shrewsbury. Officer Chad Chesna of the Shrewsbury Police Department located the vehicle in the parking lot with the suspect still inside the vehicle. He took the suspect into custody awaiting the arrival of Westborough Officers.
The suspect was identified as Mason R. Bock, age 46 of 179 Boston St. Salem. Police were able to locate the stolen items which included credit cards, personal papers, the IPhone and $16 cash from inside Bock’s vehicle.
He has been charged with unarmed robbery and assault and battery. He is being held at the Westborough Police Department for arraignment in WDC this morning. Investigating the incident for the Westborough Police were Sgt. Steven Reale and Ptl. Domenic Annunziata.
