Southborough – Alvan R. Jones, 87, of Southborough died at his home Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2013, after a period of declining health. He was the husband of Ingamay (Magnuson) Grimm Jones.

He was a U.S. Marine veteran serving in WWII, and earned his bachelor degree at Northeastern University in Boston.

For many years, Al worked for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in the Department of Correction. His rank was Captain, but he was the acting Deputy Superintendent when he retired.

He was an active member of the Southborough Senior Center and Greater Grace Christian Fellowship of Marlborough.? He was an avid singer and enjoyed music and playing cribbage. His laughter and jolly personality will be missed by all that knew him.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his stepchildren, Bradford Surner of Swampscott, Benjamin Surner of Holyoke, Penny Healy of Boylston, Harry Grimm of Naples, Fla., Robert Grimm of Shrewsbury, John Grimm and Helen Leger, both of Southborough, and Richard Grimm of W. Barnstable; 18 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a wife, Barbara Jones; a son, David; and a stepson, Peter Surner.

Visiting hours will be held Saturday, Oct. 26, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., at the Morris Funeral Home, 40 Main St., Southborough. A graveside funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. at the Southborough Rural Cemetery, 11 Cordaville Rd. (Route 85).
