Getting fired up about staffing

50

cartoon 102513Northborough – As the town continues to grow in population and the number of businesses located there, Fire Chief David Durgin is “sounding the alarm” that his department is not adequately staffed to handle the needs of the community.

Currently the Fire Department has a crew of four firefighters per shift; ideally Durgin would like to have eight per shift but would compromise at six. As such, he has asked the town's Staffing Committee to approve a request to recommend hiring five new firefighter/EMTs, one senior fire administrator and a fire prevention officer.

The matter will be considered after the committee meets with all other town departments to assess their needs.
