Update – Whitcomb School lockdown is over; students return to classes

Marlborough – Marlborough Public School officials released this update on the lockdown at the Whitcomb Middle School:

This to inform you that as of 11:30 a.m., police, fire and administrative officials are releasing students back to their classes. It has been determined that students’ and staff’s safety is not at risk, and the school day will resume as scheduled. Students will be dismissed at their regular time.

Officials had earlier released this statement:

Please be advised that shortly before 10 a.m. today, the Whitcomb Middle School went into a lockdown as a precaution when a concerning note was discovered by administration. Police and fire responded and worked in concert with school personnel to conduct an investigation. Students were evacuated from the building for a short time.

At this time there appears to be no threat to the health and safety of the students or staff.

Staff and students are to be commended for their cooperation in this incident.

There will be a follow-up communication once our investigation has been completed.
