Obit Myrtle MoynihanShrewsbury – Myrtle R. (Cofsky) Moynihan, 103, of Shrewsbury, died peacefully Monday, Dec. 16, 2013.

She leaves her son, John Moynihan (Brother Regis), of Shrewsbury, and a son-in-law, Daniel Doyle of Ohio. She was predeceased by her husband of 50 years Daniel E. Moynihan, and her daughters, Elizabeth A. Flanagan and Janet M. Doyle.

Myrtle was born is Worcester, daughter of Henry J. Cofsky and Josephine M. (Gover) Cofsky, and was the sister of four brothers who are deceased. She was raised on Doherty Pond in Millbury, and graduated from Millbury High School.

She graduated from Worcester City Hospital as a Registered Nurse and worked at night as a nurse in the Worcester Wire Mill until retiring in 1970.

Myrtle raised her family in Worcester and in Millbury, where she spent many years after retirement, before moving to Holden to be with her daughter Betty and then to Southgate of Shrewsbury.

Myrtle had a very strong faith in God, loved her family, enjoyed housework, and took pride in her home. She was a loving grandmother to her grandchildren, Stephen Flanagan of Worcester, Daniel Flanagan and his wife, Gail, of Holden, Diane Carr of North Grafton, Maureen Sweet and her husband, Robert, of North Grafton, Christine Sanders and her husband, Jeffery, of Virginia, and Daniel Doyle and his wife, Jennifer, of Ohio. She shared many wonderful times with her great-grandchildren, Colleen, Michael, Laura, Jessica, Donald, Jennifer, Katie, Daniel, David, Stephen, Matthew, and Rachael. She was blessed to hold her first great-great-grandchild, Camila, in her arms as we were blessed to have her as part of our lives for so long.

A calling hour will be held Saturday, Dec. 21, from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m., at Britton- Shrewsbury Funeral Home, 648 Main St., Shrewsbury, followed by a funeral Mass at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Church, 640 Main St, Shrewsbury. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Shrewsbury Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and JHC Hospice for the wonderful care given to Myrtle.
