Westborough police arrest two men for shoplifting from local stores

W police carWestborough – Police Chief Alan Gordon released this statement this afternoon:

On 1/24/14, at approximately 1:38 PM, the Westborough Police received a call reporting a shoplifting that just occurred at Target which is located on Turnpike Rd. The two suspects took a flat screen television and a vacuum cleaner and entered a gray Audi and headed east on Rte. 9.

Officer Jeffrey Keaveney was stationary at the intersection of Rte. 9 and Lyman St. and spotted the vehicle. He stopped the vehicle in front of Jiffy Lube. Inside the vehicle he observed the stolen items. Also in the vehicle, 2 computers that had been stolen from Walmart in Northborough were recovered.

The operator of the vehicle was identified as Ryan Powell, age 21 of 11 Mays Field Rd. Lunenburg. The passenger in the vehicle was identified as Stephen Albert, age 26 of 64 Liberty St. Leominster. Both suspects were placed under arrest for shoplifting and larceny over $250.

Albert was also arrested on 4 outstanding warrants. Three were from Fitchburg District court for motor vehicle offenses and the fourth was a default warrant from Leominster District Court for violation of probation for breaking and entering a motor vehicle and larceny.

They will both be arraigned in WDC on Monday morning.
