Shrewsbury – Members of six local choirs united in song March 9 at Shrewsbury's Mt. Olivet Lutheran Church.
The Spring Choir Festival drew choir members from Mt. Olivet, Concordia Lutheran Church in Worcester, First Congregational Church in Boylston, Oakdale United Methodist Church in West Boylston, and Wellspring United Methodist Church in Shrewsbury, as well as the Journey Home Singers of Westborough.
“I's so glad that all of us can be here because we learned last year together (that) this is an opportunity to do things musically that we just can's do, each of us, on our own,” said Mt. Olivet's pastor, the Rev. Andrew Heisen.
The festival was directed by Dennis Deyo, Mt. Olivet's music director. The accompanists were Eileen Straub, Mt. Olivet's organist, and John Leslie, music director at the First Congregational Church in Boylston.
“This is just a larger version of what you hear and sing on Sunday morning,” Deyo said.
The Journey Home Singers sang to a gentleman who volunteered to sit with the a cappella
hospice choir, demonstrating its work.
“The music is aimed at bringing comfort, companionship, and beauty into the world of the person who is in a place which is most often very frightening and very lonely,” Director Kathy Todd said.
