Proposed Northborough Fiscal Year 2015 budget maintains services

Northborough–Town Administrator John Coderre presented a $58.5 million budget for Fiscal Year 2015 to the Board of Selectmen March 24, saying the spending plan holds the line on services while also making an important first down payment toward future health care liabilities.

Open space and recreation plan approved by council

Marlborough – The 2011-2018 plan to preserve and develop Marlborough's open space and natural resources was approved by the City Council at its March 24 meeting. Prepared by Conservation Officer Priscilla Ryder and the Open Space and Recreation Committee, it provides for upgrading and building new parks to meet the city's recreation needs and acquiring parcels for passive recreation and new community projects.

Atlantic Management applies for earth moving permit

Marlborough – An application for “prior earth moving” from the Avalon Bay development to the front of 200 Forest Street was referred to the Urban Affairs Committee at the City Council meeting March 24. In the request to the council, it was stated that prior earthmoving, intended to precede construction by several months, is consistent with the city's zoning code.

Officials launch statewide fire safety program for seniors in Hudson

Hudson – Local and state officials gathered March 28 at the Hudson Senior Center to officially launch Senior SAFE. The new program has provided grants to 205 fire departments statewide to work with councils on aging and other agencies so that they can offer fire safety education for older adults. It's modeled after Student Awareness of Fire Education (SAFE) for children under 18, which reduced fire-related deaths within that age group by 71 percent.

Held two days after the fatal fire in a Boston apartment building, the gathering began with State Fire Marshal Stephen D. Coan inviting everyone to join him in a moment of silence for the two fallen firefighters.
