Shrewsbury girl, 8, is already a veteran fundraiser

Shrewsbury – Birthdays. Everybody has one but it's how we choose to celebrate, or not, that differs from person to person.

For 8-year-old Shrewsbury resident Kiira Maloney, her birthday is not at all about the presents. In fact, this year, she has decided to forego receiving presents for her March 5 birthday and instead has asked for donations to Project Bread's Walk for Hunger. The programs funded by Project Bread help to provide meals for those in need.

Westborough High holds fundraiser for African communities

Westborough – On Saturday, May 3,from 7 to 8:30 p.m., students and faculty from Westborough High School and members of the First United Methodist Church of Westborough invite the public to attend a fundraising event for Project Rwanda in the high school lobby. All money will go to support four initiatives in central African communities in Rwanda and the Congo.

Donations will go toward paving a road to the Kibogora Hospital opening up better access to healthcare for thousands of Rwandans, teaching children at an orphanage, rebuilding the Centre Marembo School for the disadvantaged in the village of Kigali, and funding teachers, supplies and meals in the South Kivu region of the Congo.

Rotary to host 12th annual Westborough Spring Festival

Westborough – After a long, cold winter, it's time to celebrate spring. And the Rotary Club of Westborough has the perfect occasion to do so – its 12th annual Westborough Spring Festival, which will be held Friday, May 2, through Sunday, May 4.

“The Westborough Rotarians are excited about this year's Spring Festival. The event has grown from a Sunday morning event to a full weekend of activities that appeal to all ages. From fishing and running to enjoying a dog show and tasting food from a variety of restaurants – the weekend has something for everyone,” said festival Chair Betsy Moquin.
