Hudson – Jose M. Moreira, 69, of Hudson, died at home Thursday, May 15, 2014, surrounded by his loving family.
Jose was born and raised in Santa Maria, the Azores in Portugal, son of the late Antonio and Maria (Melo) Moreira. He emigrated from Santa Maria to Hudson in 1960 and was employed by the Hannaford super Market (former Victory Market) in Hudson. He was a member of Saint Michael's Parish in Hudson.
Jose spent much of his spare time caring for his home in Hudson and enjoyed cultivating his garden every year. He always looked forward to his frequent trips back to the island of Santa Maria visiting with family and friends. Most of all, he cherished the special bond he had with his immediate family members who will miss him greatly.
He is survived by his loving sister, Maria M. Puim and her husband Antonio of Hudson; his nephew, Michael Puim and his wife Mandy of Hudson; and his two nieces, Lisa Puim of Hudson and Anna Baker and her husband Peter of Hudson. He is also survived by his great-nieces and great-nephews, Michelle Parsons, Michael Anthony and Kaitlyn Puim, Tania Hamel, and Nathaniel and Matthew Baker, along with his many friends.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, May 17, at 9 a.m., in Saint Michael's Church, 21 Manning St., Hudson. Burial will follow in Saint Michael's Cemetery, Hudson. Family and friends may attend calling hours Friday, May 16, from 5 – 8 p.m., at the Tighe-Hamilton Funeral Home, 50 Central St., Hudson.
