Marlborough – An Emergency Management Program Grant (EMPG) for $18,435 to purchase an All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) for use by the Conservation Commission, Police and Fire departments was approved the City Council at the Sept. 22 meeting.
Included with the ATV will be a trailer and radio with GPS to be used by Conservation Officer Priscilla Ryder to check the 100 miles of trails throughout the city, according to Donald E. Cusson, emergency management director. It will also be used by the Police and Fire departments for search and recovery along with the Emergency Medical Services (EMS).
In his appeal to the Massachusetts Emergency Management Association, Cusson said: “The purchase of this ATV, trailer and radio would enhance our ability to check on our trails around our water supply and other trails throughout the city for fires, lost people and intruders to restricted areas. This could save time and could also assist the Fire Department and Police Department for lost individuals or injured individuals.”
In other business, councilors referred to Legislative and Legal Affairs an amendment proposed by Mayor Arthur Vigeant to place the administrative oversight of the city’s chief procurement officer under the city auditor. It is currently under the city solicitor’s office.
