Patrick lauds Hudson’s downtown growth

Hudson – Gov. Deval Patrick took some time away from his Statehouse duties in Boston to visit a number of businesses in central Mass. Sept. 25. One of those stops was at the Rail Trail Flatbread restaurant, located at 33 Main St., in the heart of Hudson’s downtown.

Motorcyclists honor one of their own

Westborough – Approximately 135 motorcyclists gathered Sept. 20 for an event to honor the late Michelle “Shelly” Barnes Hendrix.

Hendrix, a Westborough native, was killed along with her longtime partner Kirk Arsenault of North Reading, when the motorcycle trike they were riding on was hit from behind by a tractor trailer while the two were traveling in Indiana in May 2014.

City receives grant for ATV

Marlborough – An Emergency Management Program Grant (EMPG) for $18,435 to purchase an All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) for use by the Conservation Commission, Police and Fire departments was approved the City Council at the Sept. 22 meeting.

Councilor suggests event coordinator for the city

Marlborough – Ward 7 Councilor Donald Landers sees the value of having an event coordinator for the city and is proposing that funding for the position could come from the Marlborough Economic Development Corporation (MEDC). His request for consideration of the plan, presented at the Aug. 25 meeting, met with some opposition from councilors before being referred to the Operations and Oversight Committee, chaired by Matt Elder.

Marlborough Savings Bank donates to local PTO

Hudson – There was much talk of traditions and landmarks Sept. 13 and 14 as the Hudson Portuguese Club (HPC) marked its 75th anniversary of the Our Lady of Fatima Feast, which celebrates an apparition reported to have appeared to three children in Fatima, Portugal, in 1917.

Boot Scootin’ BBQ to raise funds for new Marlborough Senior Center

Marlborough – Board members of the Friends of the Marlborough Senior Center extend an invitation to all to attend a Boot Scootin’ Barbecue Saturday, Oct. 18, at the Masonic Hall. A buffet featuring barbecued ribs, marinated chicken, corn bread, apple pie, and more will be served. DJ George will provide a variety of live music for line dancing, singing or just plain listening that will set the tone for an evening of good old western fun.

Continuing mission of Hudson High alumna in Honduras

Hudson – After graduating from Hudson High School in 2010, Michaella “Kayla” Walsh Libby majored in public health at the University of Maryland (UM). There, she tutored inner-city children with Kids Power in Washington, D.C., and raised funds for the UM chapter of Students Helping Honduras (SHH), with whom she planned to travel and help build a school. However, she died unexpectedly in 2012 at age 20, only weeks before that trip.

Northborough donor helps preserve historical grave site
