Local swimmers excel at league championships

Region – Swimmers and divers from a dozen schools, including Algonquin Regional High School, Shrewsbury High School and Westborough High School, competed at the Midland-Wachusett League Swim and Dive Invitational Championship held at Tantasqua Regional High School Jan. 29.

Shrewsbury swimmers Samantha Du and Erin Kean took first and second place in the girls’ 200 yard individual medley. Du also won the girls’ 100-yard breaststroke event.

Algonquin’s Dorian McMenemy won both the girls’ 100 yard and 200 yard freestyle events.

Algonquin also swept the 50 yard freestyle events, with Rachael Shek winning girls’ and Kevin Shi winning boys’.

Westborough swimmers Sam Rong, Aaron Wong, Nate VonDerVellen and Jared Wong teamed up to win the 200 yard freestyle relay event.
