Hudson – On Saturday, Oct. 17, Hudson High School (HHS) Peru Crew 2016 students will host the third annual Run for the Rainforest 5K to raise money for the group’s trip to the Peruvian Amazon in April 2016. Funds raised will support Peru Crew’s charities, including the Suitcase Project, bringing needed school, medical, sport and pet supplies to rural communities and Isla de Los Monos, a rescue center for primates. On the day of the event, they will also be collecting dog collars and leashes for Amazon Cares, a no-kill dog shelter in Iquitos, Peru.

Peru Crew 2016 is a group of dedicated students traveling to Iquitos, Peru, and the Amazon rainforest during April vacation. Students will work together for eight months prior to traveling, teaching second-graders at the C.A. Farley Elementary School about the rainforest and conducting a cultural exchange between Farley students and the children of the Yagua community of Urco Murano, Peru. They will help the Farley students create picture books that describe their everyday life to exchange with Peruvian students.

To sign up for the Run for the Rainforest 5K, visit www.eventbrite.com/e/run-for-the-rainforest-2016-tickets-18540989599 or register the morning of the event at the HHS Riverside parking lot, 69 Brigham St. The race begins at 8 a.m. Registration is $20.
