Obit Raymond ShawWestborough – Raymond “Ray” Joseph Shaw, 80, of Westborough, passed away peacefully Thursday, Nov. 19, 2015, surrounded by his family, at Whittier Rehabilitation Hospital.

Ray grew up in Waldwick, N.J., son of Michael T. and Beatrice (Thompson) Shaw. He served four years in the Navy during the Korean War, as a Radar Petty Officer, 1st Class. On Dec. 27, 1958, Ray married the love of his life, Barbara (Lambertine) Shaw. He attended Farleigh Dickerson University at night, while working at Bendix Corp. during the day, earning a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering.

Ray and Barb moved to Westborough in 1969, where they raised their three children.

Ray had a distinguished career ranging from engineering to inventor, holding several patents in photoelectric technology. In 1979, he started his own company, Control Engineering, which specialized in solving solutions for customers in the industrial automation marketplace. He was a well-respected sales engineer in the New England region for over 40 years.

In retirement, Ray spent summers with his wife at their lake house on Sheepscott Lake in Palermo, Maine. They enjoyed boating, fishing, painting, filling their home with laughter, and hosting their family/friends whenever possible.  Ray and Barbara loved their grandchildren and enjoyed spending time watching their activities and sharing in their lives.

After the death of his beloved wife, Ray moved to the Willows, where he made many cherished friends. He loved playing cards, welcoming new residents, and being a friend to everyone he met. In addition, he enjoyed the volunteer work as Eucharist Minister to the sick and serving as an advisor for the Bereavement Support group at St. Luke’s Parish.

He will be deeply missed by his family and children, Kenneth Shaw of Blackstone, Jacqueline (Shaw) Herd and her husband Mark of Upton, and Stephen Shaw and his wife Carrie of Brentwood, N.H., and his grandchildren, Nicholas and Maegan Herd, Kyle and Mikayla Shaw, and Joshua, Joseph, Angela, John Shaw. He is survived by his brother, Michael T. Shaw Jr., and his sisters, Agnes McAndrew of Randolph, N.J. and Beatrice Doty of Shrewsbury, N.J.

His funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, Nov. 24, at 10:30 a.m., in St. Luke the Evangelist Church, 70 West Main St., Westborough. Military honors will follow. Calling hours at the Rand-Harper-Pickering Westborough Funeral Home, 62 West Main St., Westborough, are Monday, Nov. 23, from 4-7 p.m.
