Westborough – For many of the 1 in 2 men and 1 in 3 women who will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime, early detection can save their lives, as it did with Caitlin.

Using the lessons she learned from 15-40 Connection, a national organization that promotes early cancer detection, Caitlin noticed a lump in her breast that she knew had not been there before. Rather than wait to see if the lump would continue to grow, she advocated to be seen by her doctor early. Her actions led to an early diagnosis of her very aggressive cancer. Caitlin’s oncologist told her that had she ignored the change in her health and taken a wait-and-see approach, her cancer would have progressed quickly and very likely would have altered the effectiveness of treatment and decreased her chance of survival.

To help save more lives, 15-40 Connection will hold Giving Tuesday, part of its #Giving2Empower campaign. On Tuesday Dec. 1, the organization is asking for support to continue empowering others with the lifesaving advantage of early cancer detection through several initiatives.

In the spirit of Giving Tuesday, 15-40 Connection invites residents to:

  • Give a one time or monthly donation to support educational programming that empowers the lifesaving advantage of early cancer detection;
  • Share 15-40 Connection’s three steps to early cancer detection on Facebook, Twitter or LinkedIn;
  • Email friends and family the three steps to early cancer detection. (An email template is ready for you to share.);
  • Pledge to teach others the three steps to early cancer detection; and
  • Honor people who are battling or who have battled cancer with a message on the #Giving2Empower honor roll (www.15-40.org/giving-tuesday-2015-honor-roll/).

“Anyone can participate in 15-40 Connection’s 2015 Giving Tuesday campaign by donating, emailing and sharing on social media,” said Tricia Laursen, executive director of 15-40 Connection. “We have also created an honor wall so you can honor people who have fought cancer and share the lessons we have learned from them. We need everyone’s help to change the way we think about cancer and empower the lifesaving advantage of early cancer detection.”
