Obit Mabel HmuraShrewsbury – Mabel Hmura will spend Thanksgiving and eternity in heaven with her much loved husband, Raymond. She died peacefully at home Wednesday, Nov. 25, 2015. She was 90.

Mabel R. Lacroix was born July 7, 1925 in Worcester, a daughter of the late Magliore J. and Adelia J. (Boudreau). Raised and educated in Worcester, she graduated from Holy Name High School with the class of 1943, and later the Catherine Gibbs School. She met Raymond J. Hmura at the former Worcester 5 Cent Savings while Ray was there to see a co-worker of Mabel’s. They married on May 8, 1948 in Holy Name Church and remained together for 65 years until his death Feb. 22, 2014. Residents of Shrewsbury for over 45 years, they also lived 20 years in Naples, Florida.

Mabel worked for the Town of Shrewsbury as assistant town accountant many years before retiring. Previously, she had worked at various banks and credit unions.

In addition to her husband, Ray, she is predeceased by her sisters, Jeanette Scheurer, Claire Brunelle, Florence Desaulniers, and Gertrude Richard. She is survived by many nieces and nephews, including Julie B. Richard and her son Nikolai, with whom she lived, and great-nieces and great-nephews.

Family and friends will honor and remember Mabel’s life by gathering for a calling hour Saturday, Nov. 28, from 10-11 a.m., in Saint Anne’s Church, 130 Boston Tpke., Shrewsbury, followed by her funeral Mass celebrated at 11 a.m. Burial in Mountain View Cemetery will be private.
