Shrewsbury – In August 2014, the Shrewsbury Board of Selectmen was approached by John Glowik, president of Prime Wellness Centers, who was seeking support for a proposed 41,000 square foot medical marijuana growing facility to be located at 28 Bowditch Drive. That discussion continued at the board’s Aug. 25, 2015 meeting in which, after considerable discussion and some dissention, the selectmen issued a letter of non-opposition to the state Department of Public Health (DPH). The board at that time also made it clear that they would not look favorably upon a subsequent request by Glowik to open a medical marijuana dispensary in Shrewsbury. Prime Wellness Centers operates a medical marijuana dispensary in South Windsor, CT and hopes to have a growing facility in Shrewsbury up and running in 2016.
At its Nov. 24 meeting, the board acted to approve a community benefit agreement (CBA) with Prime Wellness. A CBA is a contract signed by community groups and a real estate developer that requires the developer to provide specific amenities and/or mitigations to the local community or neighborhood. In exchange, the community groups agree to publicly support the project, or at least not oppose it. The board vote was unanimous.
In other business, the board approved the application of Salim Auode, dba/ Sam’s Mobile Service, 285 Boston Turnpike, for an increase in autos from 16 to 25 with a Class II License.
Also, the selectmen recognized uniformed members of Boy Scout Troop 114 who were present, along with their scout master, Rick Spur, to commemorate the troop’s 100th anniversary.
