Westborough – Police Chief Alan Gordon released this statement this morning:
On 9/15/15, at approximately 9:04 PM, the Westborough Police Department received a call reporting a serious motor vehicle accident on Rte. 9 east at Longmeadow Rd. The arriving unit observed a 2014 Toyota Avalon with heavy front end damage with the female operator still inside the vehicle with serious injuries. The operator was identified as Theresa M. Meltzer, age 61 of 46 Wilbur Dr. Ashland. She was treated by Paramedics from the Westborough Fire Department and was transported to U. Mass Medical for treatment. The other vehicle involved was a 2015 Ford SUV police cruiser owned by the Southborough Police Department. The operator of the vehicle was Officer John Woodford, age 32. He was shaken up but did not require treatment.
The accident was investigated by members of the Mass State Police. A reconstruction of the accident was performed by Westborough Officer Clifford Luce who represents the Central Mass Law Enforcement Council’s accident reconstruction unit.
Officer Luce determined that the Meltzer vehicle was proceeding east on Rte. 9 and struck the rear of the police cruiser which was stopped with its emergency lights flashing.
Officer Luce was informed recently that the blood alcohol level on Theresa Meltzer was found to be .17 which is over twice the legal limit. She has been charged with DUI alcohol and operating a motor vehicle negligently. She will be summoned to the WDC at a later date.
