Obit Cynthia LabaShrewsbury – Cynthia M. (Souza) Laba, of Shrewsbury, died unexpectedly Sunday, Dec. 6, 2015 at home. She was 62.

She was born Sept. 16, 1953 in Fall River, a daughter of Wilhemina (Medeiros) Souza-Perry and the late Joseph Souza. Raised and educated in Fall River, she was a graduate of B.M.C. Durfee High School. She married Daniel J. Laba in February 1977 in St. Anne’s Church and moved to Shrewsbury in 1990.

Cynthia loved everything about her home on Lake Quinsigamond in Shrewsbury. She loved gardening, cooking and baking in the kitchen, food magazines, and new recipes with which to experiment. Her home was a welcoming and open door to many friends and neighbors, and she will be remembered as a great listener. She had a genuine care and concern for others. She loved being a great wife and mother.

In addition to her husband of 39 years, Dan, she leaves her sons, Danny J. Laba Jr. and Richard S. Laba, all of Shrewsbury; her mother, Wilhemina Perry of Portsmouth, R.I. and her late husband Jack; her brothers, Joseph Souza and his wife Alice of Silver Lake, N.H. and Ronald Souza and his late wife Susan of Portsmouth, R.I., and the late Richard Souza; her in-laws, Magdeline Laba, John Laba and his wife Becky, Matthew Laba and his wife Linda, and the late Pete Laba; many nieces and nephews, including, Debra, Joey and Marybeth, Steven, Will, Petey, Sonya, Shannon, Stephanie, Elizabeth, Angel, Stephanie and Nate; first cousins, Marie, Patsy, Pauline, Susan, Billy and Urban; aunts, uncles and lifelong friends, Steve and Mary Aquiar.

Family and friends will honor and remember Cynthia’s life by gathering for calling hours Thursday, Dec. 10, from 4-8 p.m., at Heald & Chiampa Funeral Directors ~ The Sumner House, 5 Church Road, On the Common, Shrewsbury Center, and again Friday morning, Dec. 11, before leaving in procession to Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 1290 Grafton St., Worcester, where her funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery.
