Obit Patricia BurgessNorthborough – Patricia J. (Cowen) Burgess, 72, passed away peacefully Saturday, Dec. 19, 2015 at Brigham and Women’s Hospital after a courageous 14-year battle with cancer.

She leaves her devoted husband of 47 years, Warren “Web” Burgess; her loving daughter, Julie Labonte and husband Timothy of Exeter, N.H.; four grandchildren, Gabriel, Karson, Caitlin and Sebastien; her sister, Frances Chicoine of Jay, Maine; her niece, Debbie Baxter and husband Bill of Leeds, Maine; and three step-children, Warren Burgess, Veronica Pardee and Joyce Besaw. She was predeceased by three brothers, Robert Cowen, Paul Cowen, and Raymond “Sonny” Slater.

Born in Marlborough, she was the daughter of Russell and Marie (Welch) Cowen. Pat was raised in Marlborough and Livermore Falls, Maine.

She worked as an accountant for the former Bay State Abrasives in Westborough for 20-plus years. Pat went on to work for Select Energy in Framingham, retiring in 2006.

An active member of First United Methodist Church in Westborough, Pat was an original member of Good News Ringers handbell choir, church head counter and countless other boards and committees. She was also actively involved with Appalachian Service Project, making several trips south and volunteering her time and talents. Her hobbies included square dancing, quilting and camping, particularly in Wells, Maine. She cherished spending time with her loving grandchildren.

Calling hours will be held Saturday, Dec. 26, from 1-4 p.m., in Hays Funeral Home, 56 Main St., Northborough. A memorial service will take place Sunday, Dec. 27, at 1:30 p.m., in First United Methodist Church, 120 West Main St., Westborough. Burial will be private.

The family would prefer donations be made to Appalachian Service Project (ASP) – Westborough, c/o First United Methodist Church.
