Obit-Flag_USE-THIS-ONE4Hudson – Edward M. McNiff, 83, of Hudson and former longtime resident of Marlborough, died Tuesday, Dec. 22, 2015, surrounded by his loving family, at Newton-Wellesley Hospital. He leaves his loving wife of 62 years, Florence M. (McLellan) McNiff of Hudson.

Edward was born in Clinton, son of the late Edward M. McNiff Sr. and Mary (Smolsky). He was raised in Hudson, where he attended local schools and was a graduate of Hudson High School. He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the U.S. Navy until being honorably discharged in 1954.

He owned and operated Hudson Cleaners in Hudson for many years until turning the operation over to his son, Robert. He was a member and Past President of the Hudson Eagle’s; Life Member of the Hudson Lodge of Elk’s and member of Saint Michael’s Parish in Hudson.

Edward was truly proud of his local roots and took great pride in the running of the Hudson Cleaners for many years. He loved the local community and was always a generous supporter of many local charities. His passion later in life was traveling with his wife, Florence, and they always looked forward to spending the winters in Boynton Beach, Fla. He will forever be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather and loyal friend. He will truly be missed by all.

Besides his wife, he is survived by his three sons, Edward M. McNiff and his wife Julie of Shrewsbury, Michael P. McNiff and his wife Robin of Hudson, and Robert S. McNiff and his wife Mary Lou of Hudson, and his daughter, Cheryl A. McNiff of Hudson. He is also survived by his five loving grandchildren, Mikala Geurtsen and her husband Geoffrey, Sean McNiff, Paul McNiff, Michael McNiff and Brian McNiff, along with nieces, nephews and many friends.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday, Dec. 28, at 9 a.m., in Saint Michael’s Church, 21 Manning St., Hudson. Burial will follow in Forestvale Cemetery of Hudson. Calling hours were held Dec. 27 at the Tighe-Hamilton Funeral Home of Hudson.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Edward may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 480 Pleasant St., Watertown, MA 02472.
