Obit Mary E. DeibelMarlborough – Mary E. (Sheehan) Deibel, 86, of Marlborough, died Thursday, Jan. 7, 2016. Born in Boston, she was the daughter of the late Timothy and Elizabeth (O’Shea) Sheehan and the wife of the late George H. Deibel, who died in 1997.

A graduate of Mt. St. Joseph Academy, Brighton, Mary enjoyed being an active member of the Marlborough community to which she moved in 1959. She shared her time and talents with the local parishes, especially St. Matthias Parish, of which she was a founding member. Regardless of where family gatherings took place, Mary, with camera in tow, was there to capture treasured memories.

She is survived by her daughters, Mary Elizabeth York of Marlborough, Elizabeth Carima and her husband Victor of Mont Vernon, N.H., and Ann Nelson and her husband Mark of Waxhaw, N.C.; her brothers, John Sheehan and his wife Maureen of Southampton and Gerard Sheehan of Scituate; her sisters, Margaret Cronin of Stoughton and Ann Canavan and her husband Konrad Benz of Burlington; her grandchildren, Abigail York, Alison Long, Jennifer Finnigan, Jason Carima, Lisa Gilson, and Thomas, David and Robert Nelson; her great-grandchildren, Olivia and Alexis Carima, Zephyr and Juniper Narus, and Bennett and Simon Finnigan; and many, many nieces and nephews and a large extended family where she was affectionately known as “Grandma Mary.” She was also the sister of the late T. Joseph Sheehan and Elizabeth Bell.

Her funeral Mass was celebrated Monday, Jan. 11 at St. Matthias Parish, with burial at Evergreen Cemetery of Marlborough. The Slattery Funeral Home, Inc. of Marlborough handled arrangements.
