It looks like the next week or so will see at least two and possibly three bouts with snow, but none of these look to be very significant, on the order of possibly two to four inches late Monday and Monday night and less than that about Wednesday and again about Friday. The major news for next week will be the shot of Arctic air coming in over next weekend. This looks like it will be the coldest air of the season so far as temperatures on Sunday night/Monday morning (2/14 – 2/15) tumble to around -5° in the usual coldest spots. See the attached GFS temperature guidance for reference.
It is beginning to look like there will be another retreat from harsh winter conditions on the way, perhaps as early as about 10 days from now, following the Arctic air mass. This will not signal the end of winter though, as the pendulum will swing back to winter conditions once again. In this back and forth season of 2015/2016 we will likely see more than one period of “false spring” alternating with winter conditions before real spring makes its presence known.
