Northborough – Northborough residents who recently received their excise tax bills may have noted a peculiar request – that payments be sent to the town of Swampscott.

Town Administrator John Coderre told the Board of Selectmen Feb. 8 that excise tax bills mailed recently contained accurate assessments and tax amounts, but asked for payment to be sent to Swampscott—a clerical error he said the town’s vendor has taken full responsibility for.

“All the other information on the bills is correct,” Coderre said. “The best thing for people to do is just ignore those bills and work with the new ones.”

New bills have been sent already and the vendor has taken on the full financial responsibility for printing and mailing costs related to the correction, Coderre noted.
