Marlborough – Josephine A. (LaMorticelli) Spinney, 79, of Marlborough, died Wednesday, Feb. 10, 2016 at Marlborough Hospital.

Born in Waltham, she was the daughter of the late James and Geni (Pantaleo) LaMorticelli and the wife of the late John N. Spinney, who died in 2006.

A resident of Marlborough for over 50 years, Mrs. Spinney had been employed as a waitress at many local restaurants, including Andrea Restaurant, Country Villa, Giovanni’s, White Cliffs and White’s Corner, and had a large and faithful customer following.

She was a former Religious Education teacher at St. Matthias Parish and also served as a Girl Scout troop leader. She enjoyed playing the organ and accordion, working in her garden, and collecting dolls. She loved being with people and she especially enjoyed the company of her loving children, grandchildren, siblings and neighbors.

She is survived by her daughters, Jennifer Nelson, Karen Spinney, Cheryl Spinney and Rosemarie Spinney Colwill, all of Marlborough; her sons, John N. Spinney Jr. of Foxboro and Michael J. Spinney of Florida; her brother, Frank LaMorticelli of Arlington; her sisters, Gilda Usher of West Newton, Velia James of Stow and Jeanne Frazier of New York; her grandchildren, Briana Owen, Megan, Colin, Ryan, and Jack Spinney and Emily Rose Spinney Colwill; and her great-granddaughter, Avery Lee Owen. She was predeceased by her siblings, Rose Johnson, Dominic LaMorticelli, Fiore LaMorticelli, Joe LaMorticelli, Paul LaMorticelli and Ann Shedd.

Visiting hours will be held Monday, Feb. 15, from 4-7 p.m., at the Slattery Funeral Home, 40 Pleasant St., Marlborough. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Feb. 16, at 10 a.m., at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Wilson Street, Marlborough.
