Shrewsbury – Liam Monahan, a senior at Shrewsbury High School and a page at the Shrewsbury Public Library for three years, shared his Advanced Placement (AP) Art Class portfolio Feb. 19 at the library staff meeting.

“The library holds a special place in my heart,” Monahan said.

Currently he takes AP Art: Studio/Drawing with teacher Shari Fox. In that class students have choose a concentration to focus on – for his, he chose Libraries.

“Having worked at the Shrewsbury Public Library for almost three years, I have gained great appreciation for libraries. I have witnessed the important role they play in the lives of individuals and in our society,” he said in an essay for his class. “Libraries are sources of knowledge and entertainment, are community centers, and are homes that document our past. Through my concentration Libraries, I explore the representation of the value of libraries and how people interact with them, while demonstrating a nostalgic tone.”

Library Director Ellen Dolan said the library will display Liam’s work when the new facility opens later this year.
