Marlborough – The Friends of Marlborough Seniors is hosting a fundraising event during the month of March. The 2016 No Show Gala, commemorating the one year anniversary of the ribbon cutting for the new Senior Center, allows people to support the Friends without having to attend an event.
Donors can enjoy the event from the comfort of home. No tuxedos or gowns, no chicken dinners, no speeches! The gala will raise funds to support the work of the Friends. Suggested contributions are $5 per person or $50 per virtual table. All funds raised are used to enhance programs at the Senior Center and all donations are tax deductible.
The Friends of Marlborough Seniors is the primary fundraising arm of the Council on Aging and is tasked with raising private donations and securing grants for the Senior Center. The Friends board members are a dedicated group of local professionals, business owners and retirees, who are interested in ensuring quality services are offered to a population that has given so much over their lifetimes, according to Attorney Sean Nicholas Fay, president of the group. Fay notes that donations raised from the gala will be added to funds raised throughout the year in the local community.
“Sometimes the support that we provide comes in the form of emergency assistance for a senior at risk, transportation for an isolated senior, funding for a program at the Senior Center, funding for the monthly newsletter, or the purchase of equipment. The need is always there. Our generous donors help fill the gaps. We are only stewards of the generous donations that our donors entrust to our care,” Fay said.
According to David Morticelli, Friends vice president, “none of the work that we do at the Marlborough Senior Center would be possible without the generosity of individual, corporate, and grant donors including the Cummings Foundation and the Brigham Family Trust.”
Secure donations can be made online at http://www.friendsofmarlboroughseniors.org or checks can be made payable to The Friends of Marlborough Seniors and mailed to P.O. Box 358, Marlborough, MA 01752.
