Shrewsbury – Mary B. (Bullard) Hennessy, 96, died Thursday, March 17, 2016 in her home with family by her side.

She was born Oct. 30, 1919, the daughter of John H. and Amy B. (Sawyer) Bullard, in Canton. After graduating from Canton public schools, she graduated from Bates College. Subsequently working in Boston, she met her future husband, Dr. Robert N. Hennessy. They would move to Westborough to raise their family.

From Westborough, she was active in many civic causes, including the MA Dental Society Women’s Auxiliary and as a docent at the Worcester Art Museum and a volunteer at the Worcester Foundation for Experimental Biology. She was a longtime member of the Congregational Church of Westborough and the Mirror Lake Church in New Hampshire.

In addition, she partnered with her husband to raise Arabian horses at their farm in Westborough. She was an avid bridge player, loved gardening, and was devoted to her family. She was known far and wide for her gourmet cooking and entertained friends and family frequently at her home. After leaving Westborough, she spent the last 10 years living independently at the Southgate Community in Shrewsbury.

Survivors include her daughter, Ananya Hixon of San Anselmo, Calif.; son and daughter-in-law, Drs. R. Brian Hennessy and Abigail Adams of Boylston; daughter and son-in-law, Drs. Joanne and Mark Huyler of Hatfield; grandchildren, Byron Hixon of Minneapolis, Minn., Adam Hixon of Portland, Ore., Dr. Christy Clark of Boylston, Christopher Huyler of Danbury, N.H., and Annie Huyler of Hershey, Pa.; and five great-grandchildren.

Services will be held later in the year.
