Obit Thomas R. ClinganMarlborough – Thomas R. Clingan, 56, of Marlborough, died Sunday, March 20, 2016 at the Rose Monahan Hospice in Worcester, following a lengthy illness.

Born in Marlborough, he was the son of the late Frederic J. Clingan, Jr. and Merle G. (Libby) Clingan and the husband of Kristen A. (Libby) Taylor Clingan of Marlborough.

A graduate of Falmouth High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1981and was schooled as a maintenance technician for infrared detection systems. He had been assigned to Brunswick Naval Air Station as well as Naval Air Station, S. Weymouth until his discharge.

He had been employed as a communication technician for Verizon for the past 15 years and was a member of Local 2222.

His interests were many and varied. He enjoyed cooking, bird watching, and visiting botanical gardens, as well as attending concerts and participating at karaoke. He was also actively involved with Green Marlborough.

Besides his wife, he is survived by his sister, Candice (Clingan) Bostwick of Herndon, Va.; his nephews, Robert W. Bostwick of Seattle, Wash. and John C. Bostwick of Colorado Springs, Colo.; his aunt, Jeanne (Clingan) McGrath of St. Augustine, Fla.; his uncle, Robert J. Libby of Pepperell; his granddaughter, Alexis J. Kenny of Spencer; and many cousins. He was also the brother of the late Cheryl Ann (Clingan) Coon, who died in 1964.

Visiting hours will be held Saturday, March 26, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., followed by a funeral service at 12 p.m. at the Slattery Funeral Home, 40 Pleasant St., Marlborough.  Burial will be held at a later date at the National Cemetery in Bourne.
