Two injured in Shrewsbury after car hits pole

SH fire dept car accident 1-rsShrewsbury – The Shrewsbury Police Department released this statement this afternoon:

On March 27, 2016 at 6:35 PM the Shrewsbury Police were dispatched to 11-13 Edgemere Boulevard for a report of a motor vehicle that had crashed into a utility pole. Shrewsbury Fire Department and U-Mass EMS were also dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival emergency units determined there were two occupants in the motor vehicle, the operator and his three year old child. The occupants were trapped inside and had to be extricated from the vehicle. Both occupants were injured and transported to U-Mass Memorial Medical Center.

The Shrewsbury Police investigation determined that the 1989 Nissan 240SX was traveling North on Edgemere Boulevard at a high rate of speed when the driver lost control of the vehicle and it crashed into the utility pole. The operator of the motor vehicle is Manuel A. Figueroa, 36 years old from North Oxford, Ma. The operator has been charged with:

  1. OUI Liquor
  2. Child Endangerment while OUI
  3. Negligent Operation
  4. Speeding
  5. Marked Lanes Violation
  6. Failure To Wear Seatbelt
  7. Child Restraint Violation

Both occupants were admitted to U-Mass Hospital for their injuries and the operator will be arraigned for his charges at Westboro District Court at a later date. The accident remains under investigation by the Shrewsbury Police Department Accident Reconstruction Unit and the office of Worcester County District Attorney Joseph D. Early Jr. Sgt. Michael A. O’Connor is the investigating Officer for the Shrewsbury Police Department.
