Obit-Flag_USE-THIS-ONE4Marlborough – Ronald J. Harvie, 70, died early Sunday morning, April 3, 2016 after a long period of failing health. He was the husband of Margaret (O’Connor) Harvie, to whom he was married for 43 years.

He was born in Waltham, the son of the late George William Harvie Sr. and Eleanor O’Brien, and lived in Marlborough for the last 45 years.

Ron was a United States Army veteran of the Vietnam War. There, he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Bronze Star Medal, and the Vietnam air medal as a member of the 101st Airborne Division.

He was employed as a pipefitter for the TG Gallagher company. He was a member of the UA Pipefitters Local 537 for over 25 years and a former member of the UA Pipefitters Local 448.

Besides his wife he is survived by a son, Rob Harvie and his wife Corinne of Attleboro; two sisters, Darlene Greener of North Attleboro and Sharon Allen of Plainville; a grandson, Matthew Harvie; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, George and David Harvie.

Ron enjoyed spending time in his yard, being with friends and neighbors, and considered his grandson Matthew his pride and joy.

His funeral will be held Thursday, April 7, at 10 a.m., in the William R. Short and Son Funeral Home (www.shortfuneral.com), 95 West Main St., Marlborough. Burial will follow in the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne. Visiting hours at the funeral home will be held Wednesday, April 6, from 5-8 p.m.
