Grafton – Worcester District Attorney Joseph Early, Jr. said today officials are investigating a crime scene at 55 Worcester Road (Route 140), which left one person dead and one hospitalized. Officials say Kelley Sugarman was found dead in a bedroom and her husband, Michael was found with a knife in his throat.
At a press conference, Early said the couple’s five-year-old daughter was found at the side of the road, in her pajamas, apparently walking herself to her preschool, when Grafton police officer Thomas Michniewicz saw her. He immediately called for assistance and Sgt. James Crosby came to the scene and both police officers attempted to find out the child’s name and residence.
After asking her several questions they ascertained the girl’s mother’s name and the officers brought her back to her house at 55 Worcester St.
Shortly there after, the officer observed a man on the floor of house’s kitchen with what appeared to be a knife protruding from his neck. The police officers continued to search the house and found Kelly Sugarman, 36, deceased on the floor in her bedroom.
Early said the investigation is still ongoing and no motive has been ascertained as of yet. He said that it is too early to say if this is a murder-suicide attempt.
Michael Sugarman is now in a local hospital. The child was placed into the custody of the Department of Children and Families.
Grafton Police, the State Police Detectives assigned to the Worcester County District Attorney’s Office are investigating with assistance from the, State Police Crime Scene Services, and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. Med Star Ambulance also was actively involved as well.
More details will be forthcoming.
