Obit-Flag_USE-THIS-ONE4Hudson – Raymond Joseph Garcia, 85, of Hudson, died Saturday, April 16, 2016 at New Horizons in Marlborough. He was the husband of the late Lorraine (Belanger) Garcia, who died in 2000.

Raymond was born and raised in Hudson, son of the late Raymond and Sophie (Smatanko) Garcia. He attended local school and was a 1948 graduate of Hudson High School.

He owned and operated Raymond Engineering Land Surveying Company for over 35 years until retiring in 1996. He was a retired captain of the Massachusetts National Guard, a member of the Reserve Officers Assoc. for 33 years, a life member of the Hudson Elks, and a member of the Hudson Eagles.

Raymond enjoyed tinkering around his home in his spare time. In his younger years, he enjoyed flying planes as a recreation. He looked forward to spending time at his campsite, but, most of all, he cherished being with his family, especially later with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is survived by children Sandra Newman of E. Douglas, Paula Genovese of Concord, N.H., Linda Freeman of Holden, Sheila McCarthy of California, and Lisa Sewall and husband Jeremy of Wellesley. He is also survived by his sister, Helen Lanney and her husband Ken of Lancaster; his brother, Frank Garcia and his wife Cecile of W. Yarmouth; his 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late William Garcia of Hudson.

Family and friends may attend calling hours Thursday, April 21, from 5-8 p.m., at the Tighe-Hamilton Funeral Home, 50 Central St., Hudson (www.tighehamilton.com). A celebration of Raymond’s life will be held Friday, April 22, at 11 a.m., in the funeral home. Burial will follow in Forestvale Cemetery.
