Shrewsbury – Last November, the new Kenneth F. Burns Memorial Bridge, which connects Shrewsbury to Worcester via Route 9, officially opened to great fanfare. The bridge, which replaced the nearly 100-year old bridge spanning Lake Quinsigamond, was completed ahead of schedule and under budget.
Recently the project received another honor when it received the Public Works Project of the Year award from the American Public Works Association.
The new bridge was built as part of the Patrick-Murray administration’s Accelerated Bridge Program. It includes four lanes for traffic as well as bike lanes and pedestrian overlooks for viewing rowing and boating events.
